Welcome Back Sunshine!

I am really loving this sunshining Monday!

ahhh sunshine!

Last week was one rainy week here in Ohio!

Proof:

A vase left on the table outside.. all from last week!

I almost fell walking out to take this picture because the deck was covered in slime (??)  from all the rain since we are too lazy haven’t gotten around to staining it yet!

One positive of all this rain is that my flowers are absolutely thriving!

Our mums are starting to bloom, a sure sign that fall is in the air.

These  mums were a gift from J’s mom. We just simply planted them in the ground a few falls ago and they have come back bigger every year! 🙂 We thought they would die in the winter and be gone forever, but to our surprise (and delight!) we are able to enjoy them every year without having to pay for new plants.

The rain has also helped this little monster to grow:

This thing is taller than me now! It’s supposed to just be a cute little bush at the end of the driveway, but I think I see a new location in the future. Somewhere were it can grow freely and we don’t have to trim it ever few weeks! Word of advice-when planning your flower beds read how big things get and plan accordingly. Oh well, you live and learn and then buy plants that don’t need constant maintainance!

I’m off to give Mr. Monster Bush a haircut!

Hope everyone gets a chance to enjoy this beautiful day!

Just Like a Day at the Beach

A while ago, I purchased a groupon to Picaboo. It’s an online site where you can make photo books. I haven’t used it yet and I thought making a book with our latest vacation pictures would be cute.

I sat down and worked on it for a few hours. While I was sorting photos and picking layout and backgrounds, I lit a new candle I just bought at Target. It’s from Yankee Candle and its called “Beach Party”. It smells just like sunscreen! I also lit a candle that I’ve had forever named  “Ocean Water”.

I must be having beach withdraws! I adorned my little candle jumble with a few rocks I got at Pier One a while back. I had a coupon for $10 off a $10 or more purchase! I usually avoid Pier One because they are a little pricey, but free is free! 🙂

It really reminded me of the beach. I can’t wait until we can go back and hopefully stay longer.

Anyhow, has anyone ever used Picaboo before? Oh my goodness! They have choices on top of choices to make your books. You can totally customize everything. You can pick the backgrounds, layouts, the colors, you can even lighten/darken your photos and there are a ton of fonts for captions. It can be a bit overwhelming.  I have about 5 pages done. I like the jumble layouts where you can add a lot of pictures. I also included a few pages with minimal pictures and room to write about the trip. This is the first photo book I’ve ever made and it’s a lot of fun so far. I did get into scrapbooking for a while, but it was time-consuming, and right now I am only up to the beginning of last summer when we went to New Orleans. I think that once I (hopefully) get caught up with my scrapbook, I will start orgainizing my pictures into books online and ordering them.

Where is your favorite place to vacation??

I wasn’t perked in any way to do this post. The thoughts on Picabo are totally my own from my own experience. 🙂

Everything Will be O.K.

I went to Pat Catan’s the other day and they had a lot of summer things on sale. I picked up a little chalkboard plant pick for around $1. It was 90% off!  I was just thinking that next time I went to the store I should pick up some chalk to write on it.

That same day, while I was doing laundry, a stone fell out of one of J’s jeans pockets.

I asked him what it was before I threw it away. He said it was soapstone. He used it to mark things on projects he was doing.

“Like chalk?” I asked.

“Yep, just like chalk.” he replied.

I couldn’t wait to try it out, and it worked! Yay!

I scribbled out a saying that I found online the other day.

I stuck it into a potted plant that resides by the kitchen sink.  I smile every time I walk by! It’s amazing how such a little thing makes such a big impact in my day.

What little things make you smile?

Fugate Flea Market

One day during our little getaway to Maggie Valley, we decided to check out the shops downtown.  While we were debating where to stop first, a sign caught our eye..

We had to stop, since, ya know, it is our last name and all.

Honestly, most of the stuff just looked like junk to me. Then we happened to stumble upon a few things that I just knew wanted to come back to Ohio.

First, I found this gorgeous flowery plate.

It is really heavy and you know I love anything that has daisies on it (or flowers that resemble daisies).

Next, I noticed this adorable little glass dome and plate set. (I know that’s not the proper name, and if you know it please enlighten me!)  the pattern really isn’t my style. Actually, I hate it, but J said it would be no big deal to switch out.

I also picked up this huge Ball jar. I love it! I think it will be great to display on the kitchen counter. I’m not sure what I’m going to fill it with just yet. Maybe sugar, or flour? Or maybe candy corn for the Fall?  Just leave it empty?  I think it’s a great memento of our trip to the South!

Don’t let the picture deceive you, it’s 10 inches tall!

The woman wanted $25 for all 3 things, but J used a tactic from  American Pickers, and asked her to include the cute little owl I had been admiring.

She agreed on $25 for everything. I think we did very well! I love my new treasures and can’t wait to use them or display them! The owl has a temporary home on the window seal, and he seems happy! 🙂

On the way out, we also scored this gem:

It’s a sewing table with an old sewing machine on it. I recently bought a sewing machine and this table will be perfect once it gets a bit of a facelift. I know absolutely nothing about the sewing machine except it says  “Gimbels” on the side.

I might just try to sell it or maybe fix it up and display it? The table and sewing machine were only $10!

Next, we headed down the road to an ice cream shop

It was just what we needed after a hard day hour of thrifting!

Yum Yum!

Later that evening we stopped at a gas station and I saw these beauties:

I thought they would make the perfect gift for my brother who loves unique glasses. I looked at them again and decided to get 2 for myself as well. I mean, why not? I love having an eclectic mix of things, and these would always be a reminder of our trip.

Plus, they look so country chic with pink lemonade in them!

Maggie Valley had a bunch of other fun, unique and interesting shops. We spent a couple of hours going in and seeing what they all had to offer.

By the time we got back to the cabin, this little girl was more than happy to see us!

Do you go to flea markets? What have you gotten recently?

Beach Bums

We went on a little vacation last week! First, we visited Jason’s family in NC. His aunt owns an adorable restaurant and cabins and we got to spend a few days with everyone (post coming soon!).

Sunday afternoon we left and headed to Myrtle Beach, SC!

Are we there yet??

We didn’t get there until dark, but still headed to the beach!

First time at the beach!

It was very, very windy so I couldn’t really get any good pictures. Most of them had salt and sand flying everywhere, so I put my camera away and we headed off to bed. There were some serious thunderstorm all night. I was worried it would be rainy for our only day at the beach, but the next working we awoke to sunny skies!
It was time to officially introduce Daisy to some waves!

She wasn’t too sure about going in at first, but once Jason went in there was no stopping her! She loves her daddy! He even took her out into the waves.

Here comes a wave!

We spent the morning enjoying the sunshine!

LOVE ❤

Unfortunately, soon it was time to head back to the room and get ready to go home.

Once we got back to the room, we gave Daisy a bath and she took a much-needed nap while I packed things up.

zzzzzzzz…….

There you have Daisy’s first beach experience! We can’t wait to take her back again some time when we can stay longer!

I took a lot hundreds of pictures so here is a recap of some of my favorites! Enjoy!

Stay tuned for more of our vacation!
